Biographical Note

Wayne D. Overholser was born September 4, 1906 in Pomeroy, Washington. He attended Albany College and Oregon Normal School from 1924-1926 and the University of Montana and the University of Southern California before receiving his B.S. from the University of Oregon in 1937. Overholser taught school in Tillamook, Mohler, and Bend, Oregon, from 1926-1945. From 1945 to the present, he has been a free-lance writer publishing some 27 Western novels, 4 of which were bought for movies. Overholser has contributed more than 400 western short stories and novelettes to magazines and periodicals. In 1950, he won the Colorado Author League Award for Best Adult Novel and in 1953 and 1954, the Silver Spur from the Western Writers of America for Best Western Novel. Overholser also publishes under the nom de plume of John S. Daniels, Lee Leighton, Wayne Roberts, Dan J. Stevens, and Joseph Wayne.

Abstract

Wayne D. Overholser was born in Pomeroy, Washington, in 1906 and presently lives in Boulder. From 1926-1945, he taught in Oregon schools before he turned to free-lance writing. He has published over 27 western novels and 400 western short stories and novelettes. The collection contains material on Colorado and the West: mining directories, descriptions of agriculture and ranching methods and geological survey records.
