Biographical / Historical
The Axial Basin Development Company originated from of the Collom Mine. According to the Annual report of the state inspector of coal mines, Joseph Collom was the solitary owner and worker of this mine from 1916 to 1917. In 1918 the company name switched to the Axial Basin Development Company and it had employed five workers. In 1919 the company reported that its production output increased and that it employed forty-four men. Within one year that number fell to four employees and by 1921 it dropped to two employees. By the end of the early to middle of 1920’s the mine was abandoned.
