Historical Note

The Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs administrates the academic functions of the Boulder Campus Chancellor’s Office. The University of Colorado was reorganized into four campuses in 1972, by Amendment 4 to the Colorado State Constitution. The University was allowed to create a multi-campus administration at Boulder, Colorado Springs, Denver, and the Health Science Center, each with its own chancellor.

The V.C. for Academic Affairs carries the responsibility for administering the academic programs and policies of the Boulder campus. The office provides academic management and intellectual direction while maintaining quality in teaching, scholarship, and creative work in all of the campuses colleges and centers. The division recruits faculty, deans, and other academic leaders, and distributes resources to “ensure high-quality teaching, research and creative work, and service”.

In 1974/75, James N. Corbridge was listed as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in the student directory. In 1977/78, Robert R. Borchers was listed as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in the student directory. In 1979/80, Milton E. Lipetz was listed as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in the student directory. In 1981/82, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs was changed into Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculties.
