Scope and Contents

The American Farm Project collection includes administrative, financial, and oral history records. In the administrative files are records relating to the staff, core couples, advisory committees, and local humanists as well as numerous subject files. The subject files includes information about many people and various Farmers’ Unions. Other administrative files relate to subjects such as planning grants and meetings. The financial records cover the period from June 1978 to December 1981. The end of the collection consists of slide presentations, scrapbooks, and newspaper clippings. I. Historical Note

The American Farm Project was sponsored and partially funded by the National Farmers Union and the National Endowment for the Humanities from 1978-1980. The major objective is to bring a humanities perspective to decision making in rural America through the use of rural couples. These couples are trained to view problem-solving from a humanities perspective and to conduct meetings in their home area on current topics. There are ten boxes of administrative, financial, and oral history records from 1977-1982.

Abstract

This project was sponsored and partially funded by the National Farmers Union and the National Endowment for the Humanities from 1978-1980. The major objective is to bring a humanities perspective to decision-making in rural American through the use of rural couples trained to view problem-solving from a humanities perspective and to return to their home areas to conduct meetings on current topics.
